EIS Update

Well all good things must come to an end, and sadly the 'Erasure Acoustic' tour has now concluded.

But what a tour it was! I was blown away by the beautiful arrangements of the classic songs and the sheer energy behind the performances.

So what's next for Erasure?

Well as mentioned in several recent interviews, the band are getting busy with their brand new album (with Gareth Jones as the producer), which is penciled in for a release early next year. It seems that Andy and Vince's enthusiasm for creating music continues unabated!

However before all that...

The Erasure Forum has had many new members join in the past few weeks, so I would like to extend a "welcome" to all these new forum members and I hope that you will join in many of the discussions.

However I should remind forum members both old and new that for any online community to run smoothly and to encourage new members to participate, one should take note of and follow the guidelines provided.

Issues that have cropped up too frequently of late include the posting of copyrighted material and discussions going off topic.

As an aside, if you sign up to the Erasure forum, make sure that you check your spam folder / settings to ensure that you receive the confirmation e-mail that is needed for you to activate your forum account, as many accounts are remaining unactivated and these accounts are deleted weekly.

Nashville Show - Audience Filming

The forthcoming Nashville show at the Ryman Auditorium (6th May) is being filmed for a future potential DVD release *.

To help fully capture the live experience of the show, the organisers are interested in Erasure fans (who are part of the audience) to participate in the filming of the show, by recording additional impromptu footage.

So, if you are going to the Nashville show and are interested in filming the show with your own cell phone or camcorder, then please contact me via the website:

http://www.erasureinfo.com/dialogue/contact.html **

Twenty people will be selected from those that have expressed interest, and each will be contacted via e-mail to inform them of their successful selection.

Footage recorded via a phone will need to be sent to a e-mail address (which will be specified later). Those that record footage with their camcorders will need to hand over their video tape at the end of the show (hence the requirement for full address details being provided to allow for tapes to be returned). A waiver will also need to be signed.

(*) Please Note: The fact that a show is being filmed does not guarantee a DVD release.

(**) Make sure you select 'Nashville (Audience Filming)' as the subject, and include your name, address, contact phone number and indicate how you plan to film the show (camcorder or phone).

Nashville 'Meet & Greet' Competition

If you are going to the Nashville show (6th May) then this EIS competition may interest you...

All you have to do is answer the following question correctly:

Question : Between which dates did the Ryman Auditorium venue host the Grand Ole Opry?

To enter, simply send your answer to the following e-mail address *only*:

Erasure's new album 'Union Street' is now available in major record stores as well as digital download sites (see below), and features eleven songs reworked in an acoustic / country and western style.

EIS Site Rewrite

You may have noticed that the EIS website has got a new look. As well as looking different the site has also been rewritten (XHTML 1.0 Strict).

What does this mean for you guys? Well the rationale behind the rewrite is to improve the accessibility of the site (with the removal of all popup windows / new windows opening / iframes etc) plus the pages should be more printer friendly.

The ultimate aim is to fulfil all of the W3C 'Web Content Accessibility Guidelines', add some cool new visual stuff and a search function. This is a large undertaking and is not yet complete (hence the 'Releases' section still awaiting completion) - so if you notice any broken links or pages not quite looking correct over the next few weeks, then it's probably me tweaking things and will be corrected.

If you are trying to purchase tickets for one of the forthcoming Erasure Acoustic shows and the venue has sold out, I *strongly* advise you to:

Andy Bell - 'I'll Never Fall In Love Again'

Andy Bell releases a new single via Sanctuary Records on 22nd May 2006.

'I'll Never Fall In Love Again' is taken from the Erasure frontman's debut solo album 'Electric Blue', which was released in October 2005.

The single comes with a variety of new mixes from Goetz (Sugababes, Faithless), plus Jaded Alliance & Mr Do. 'Electric Blue', an album highlight, as well as the title track, has also been completely recrafted by MHC, who turn in a darker club mix destined for the world's electro dancefloors in coming months.

The package is completed with two brand new bonus tracks 'Back Into The Old Routine' and 'Jump'. Exact formats to be confirmed shortly.

Andy Bell has spent the last few months promoting 'Electric Blue' across Europe & America, and also played his first live gigs in Russia, including two sold-out shows in Moscow & St Petersburg.

'Electric Blue' is currently enjoying considerable success in the US, where the album reached #1 in the i-Tunes Dance Chart. The first single from the album 'Crazy' also spent over four months in the Billboard Dance Chart, peaking at #3.

The 'Electric Blue' album was co-produced and written with Philip Larsen & Chris Smith, aka Manhattan Clique, who have recently worked with Goldfrapp, Moby, Fischerspooner, The B-52's and Stereophonics.

"Oozes glamour, destined for every pop-dance lover's collection" (The Sun)

"A collection of lyric-heavy dance synthpop that overachieves and succeeds in its mingling of emotion and sexuality. It's time to trade in the lime green tutu for some electric blue body paint and let the show begin!" (popmatters.com)

Potential US Fan Nashville Show Travel Package

Due to the overwhelming demand for tickets for the US Erasure Acoustic show dates, the tour promoters are investigating the possibility of offering US Erasure fans a package deal to see the Nashville performance.

The Nashville show kicks off the North American leg of the tour, and those attending will be amongst the first to see Erasure's first ever full band acoustic performance in the US!

The Ryman Auditorium was home to The Grand Ole Opry for 30 years, and artists as diverse as Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, Hank Williams to Tim McGraw and Garth Brooks have played there.

This package deal will comprise of travel (say bus or plane) from Chicago, Atlanta, NYC etc, plus hotel and an extra (maybe a meet & greet with the band) for a set price (exact price to be determined, but it will certainly be a reasonable one.)

Now for this idea to work, it is critical that an accurate picture can be built up of the level of demand for this, plus the locations of where people would potentially be travelling from.

Therefore please post on the forum in *this thread only*: http://www.erasureforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=8539

if you are interested in this idea, and where you are located / would travel from. This information will be passed onto the promoters, so that they can determine the levels of demand at different geographical locations, and gauge the feasibility of this idea.

Please do this as quickly as possible, and do not email me - it is far more effective if all feedback can be concentrated in the one place.

For further information on the Ryman Auditorium, please see: http://www.ryman.com/

Positive Nation - Andy Bell Interview

I received news of this too late to include in last weeks newsletter, however Andy is interviewed in issue 119 (February edition) of Positive Nation magazine.

"Few pop stars have the courage to speak openly about living with HIV. But last year, when Erasure singer Andy Bell told a journalist he'd been living with HIV since 1998, there was surprisingly little moralising from the tabloids and almost universal support from fans."

The full interview is available online at: Web: http://www.positivenation.co.uk

'Union Street' - 'Home' Audio Clip

As we edge closer towards the release of 'Union Street' album, another 60 sec clip escapes from the vaults!

This week it's the turn of 'Home' - and this 'Union Street' version is a beautiful re-interpretation of the song that originally appeared on the 'Chorus' album. Trust me - a mere 60 sec clip can not do this song justice! (as you may have guessed, this song is a particular favourite of mine).

As always the audio clip is available in Real and Windows Media formats via the following page:

'Boy' EP (CDMUTE359)

Some more exciting exclusive news this week!

20th March (UK) sees the release of 'Boy', a four track CD which features:

1) 'Boy' (taken from Erasure's forthcoming acoustic album 'Union Street')

2) 'Cry So Easy' (recorded for 'Union Street' but ultimately not included)

3) 'I Bet You're Mad At Me' (live BBC Radio version)

4) 'Jacques Cousteau' (a synth instrumental track)

A sixty second clip of 'Boy' can be listened to here:

EIS: http://www.erasureinfo.com/releases/albums/unionstreet.html

International release dates are to be confirmed.

I should point out that the inclusion of four different songs on this one release means that this EP is not valid for inclusion in the UK singles chart - so no need to e-mail in about that!

'Union Street' Album (North America)

The North American release date of 'Union Street' has been confirmed as 18th April.

'Union Street' - Behind The Scenes Part II

The 'Union Street' video footage that was published last week has proven to be very popular - so an additional clip has been added.

The technical quality of this weeks clip is poor (the sound level is very low with a high amount of background hiss) hence I wasn't originally going to publish it.

However the content *is* interesting (as it's an interview with Andy), therefore it deserves to be seen. I'll put up a transcript later.

The clip is available in Real Video and Windows Media formats on this page:

Tour FAQ's

When live dates are announced, invariably the EIS in inundated with the following queries, therefore I'm taking the opportunity to answer them here:

1) Can the band dedicate a song for me on stage?

No this isn't something the EIS can arrange - plus it would make for a dull show if the band had to make 100's of dedications per night.

2) Can you send me a backstage pass / put me on a guest list?

No - the EIS is not involved in such matters.

3) Are they performing in *insert place name here*.

All currently known tour dates are listed within the 'live' section. If any other venues are confirmed, then the 'live' page will be updated and an EIS Newsletter sent.

Happy New Year!

Sorry I'm a bit late, but Happy New Year to everyone!. Hope you had a good Christmas!. Thanks again for visiting the site and for your guestbook signings and feedback. It's much appreciated. It should be another good 'Erasurey' year with the acoustic/country and western album due out in the UK on the 3rd of April, plus a tour to support it (though no dates yet!). There's also rumours of another Andy Bell solo single. So lots to look forward too, hopefully!.

Erasure spotted - Spamalot!

According to New York city guide website, Erasure were spotted at the broadway show 'Spamalot' sometime between October and December last year.

From the article:

"It has also been a good year for big names, both on and off-stage. And, as you might expect, celebrity spottings managed to triple over the October-to-December pre-New Year’s rush! Observed in the audience of Spamalot—which has emerged as the Broadway show most likely to attract rock royalty—were Sting, John Mellencamp, Alice Cooper, Billy Joel, Erasure, Peter Frampton, Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen, Trent Reznor, and Rod Stewart."

New cover of A Little Respect

I've received an email about a new cover version of A Little Respect by a group called 'Cassette'. You can download it (for a charge of 50p) at their website www.cassette-music.co.uk.

'As 'A Little Respect' is one of my favourite tracks, I've treated it with er, respect (!), but our version is a more laid-back electronic style than the original - as well as being sung by female vocals...It's all done legally on licence from the MCPS and all that, so rest assured that any money is going to the right people (ie, Clarke/Bell!).' - Thanks to Oliver Freke for the info.
