"Light At The End Of The World" iTunes Availability

Just a follow up to last weeks newsletter - the 13 track edition of the new album (featuring the bonus songs "Be My Baby", "I Don't Know Why" and "I Could Fall In Love With You (Jeremy Wheatley Radio Mix)" is now available via the UK / European iTunes stores:

iTunes (UK Store)

iTunes (DE Store)

iTunes (US Store)

There are too many iTunes stores to list all the links, but the 13 track edition seems to be available on all of the iTunes regional stores except the Japanese one.

"Light At The End Of The World" - Japan Edition

All these different versions of the album are going to get confusing!

For collectors that are interested in the Japanese release of the "Light At The End Of The World" album, which contains the bonus tracks "I Could Fall In Love With You (Monteverde Extended Mix)", "I Like It" and the video for "I Could Fall In Love With You" (the "kissing" version), it is available from the HMV Japan online store:

www: http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2537576

(Tip: Click on the "English" link at the top left of the HMV web site to change the language.)

Chicago After Concert Party

There is to be an after concert party at the Chicago club "Neo" on the 12th June, after the "True Colors" show that same day.

"Come by after the show for more fun and great music. With DJs Qbot and Karmar"

address: 2350 North Clark Street, Chicago

www: http://www.neo-chicago.com/

(Thanks to Brian for the info)

"Ask Mute" Feature

The dormant "Ask Erasure" web site feature will shortly start up again, but before that happens, how about an "Ask Mute" feature?

This is your opportunity to send in questions for Erasure's record label "Mute" to answer. So if you've wanted to ask how mixes are commissioned, or what process occurs when a song is picked to be a single, well now is your chance. Just reply to this newsletter with your question(s) plus your full name, and a selection will be answered and published on the web site in a couple of weeks.

"Light At The End Of The World" Mini Torches

New shop item now available - an extremely limited number of "Light At The End Of The World" mini torches - complete with batteries. Strictly limited to no more than two per customer.

Large picture: http://www.erasureinfo.com/news/gfx/torch.jpg

EIS Shop: http://www.erasureinfo.com/commerce/shop/shop.php?action=full&id=99

As I don't run the EIS store now, you'll find that now your order will actually be dispatched on time!

Web Site Update - Video Story Board

I published this on the web site a while back, but forgot to tell anyone. The story board for the original video for "I Could Fall In Love With You" (the "fantasy supermarket" one) can be seen here:

www: http://www.erasureinfo.com/features/behindthescenes.html

Komputer Single

For those with (fairly) long memories of Erasure tours, you may recall that the band "Komputer" were the support act for Erasure during their 1996 tour.

Well Komputer have a new single out on the 18th June and there is a free download of one of the mixes via their MySpace page:

LATEOTW

I'm sure you guys don't need reminding that "Light At The End Of The World" is out this week.

Feel free to add your reviews within the "Light At The End Of The World - Fan Reviews" thread on the forum:

www: http://www.erasureforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=10709

iTunes - "Light At The End Of The World"

After some initial technical issues, the new album is now available on iTunes in the US:

iTunes: http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=253152948&s=143441

As for the availability of the new album via iTunes UK (and other regions) - technical issues resulted in it's withdrawal from the store - it will appear the next time iTunes refresh the store database, so should be available from next week at the latest.

Other related digital news - the album is currently "MSN Music Album Of The Week" - on the MSN Music UK digital store and they have this to say:

"They've had a go at country music, cover versions and even dabbled with acoustic guitars in recent times but nothing beats a bit of good old fashioned hi-nrg electro pop from Erasure. Light At The End Of The World is certainly a return to the boy's pure synth pop heyday with big old choruses and sparkly electronics ago-go.

Tracks like How My Eyes Adore You and I Could Fall In Love With You certainly up both the pace and the theatricality factor, while Andy's recent break as a solo artist has obviously improved his lyric writing skills. Probably the duo's most positive and unadulterated fun record since Wild."

Not bad, not bad at all!

Photo Gallery

Many thanks for everyone that has recently sent in photos for the gallery - the first batch have been put live, and rest will go up over the weekend.

www: http://www.erasureinfo.com/gallery/fan_live_index.html

"Light At The End Of The World" Album - Released Next Week!

At last the beautiful new Erasure album "Light At The End Of The World" will be released next week.

Rather than me go on about how good it is - let me quote a short passage from a recent review of the album:

"Just a few seconds into opening track 'Sunday Girl', you are expectant. Opening like the old Smash advert, Vince's eastern-sounding keyboards kick in and we're away on an epic three minute pop journey. And what pop it is. This is wet-your-pants Cristiano Ronaldo in glitterpants dazzling all-comers premiership champions pop. It's the sort of song pop stars used to write - Abba would've had a number one for 12 weeks with this and it would have packed every dancefloor from North to South. It might just be the greatest song they've ever recorded."

Quote taken from: "Collective" - The Interactive Culture Magazine

www: http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/collective/A22137284

The album is also CD of the week in the Mirror national newspaper, with a rating of 4/5

www: http://www.mirror.co.uk/showbiz/entertainment/music/tm_method=full%26objectid=19119689%26siteid=89520-name_page.html

Both the 10 song (standard edition) and 12 song (limited edition) versions of the album should be available from the usual large music retailers. It will also be available via digital download stores such as iTunes.

A "Light At The End Of The World" e-card is available for you to send to friends etc, and it includes audio clips from the album:

Saturday 19th May - G-A-Y Performance At The Astoria

A reminder that this Saturday Erasure will be appearing at G-A-Y at the London Astoria as special guests of Joan Rivers, performing a mixture of new and classic songs.

Tickets are available in advance at the G-A-Y bar (30 Old Compton Street). The band are due on stage at approx 1.15am

Bar: http://www.g-a-y.co.uk/bar.asp

Club: http://www.g-a-y.co.uk/eventdetail.asp?ID=614

HMV Instore Signings

Also next week is the instore signings and *live performance* (again classic and new songs) at two HMV stores:

Monday 21st May 6.00pm - HMV 150 Oxford Street, London W1D 1DJ

6.00pm - Live Performance

6.30pm - Album Signing

400 wristbands will be given out from the store from 9.00am on the 21st May on a strictly "first come first served" basis, one per person only, while stocks last.

Erasure are due to appear at 6.00pm, where they will be performing live and then will be available to sign copies of their new album "Light At The End Of The World" purchased from the store. All fans will be able to watch the performance but only those with the bands will be able to go to the signing afterwards.

Tuesday 22nd May 5.00pm - HMV 38 High Street, Birmingham B4 7SL

5.00pm - Live Performance

5.30pm - Album Signing

The Birmingham event is very similar to the London one, i.e a live performance + signing copies of the new album purchased from the store. However there will be no wristband allocation, so it is advised that you arrive early as space at the store is extremely limited and the number of people allowed in will be strictly controlled.

Would love to see your photos from the G-A-Y and HMV events - post them on the forum or email them to me so they can be added to the gallery.

Photos & Video Clips (for plasma screens etc)

Many, many thanks for all the photos / clips that you have sent in for possible use on the "Light At The End Of The World" tour.

At the time of writing just over 750 images have been received, which is a truly fantastic result - so thank you again. I've never seen so many imaginative uses of aluminium foil!

All the images / clips (where consent forms have been received) have been passed onto the production company who are creating the visual montage.

If you are a member of the Erasure forum and have submitted a picture, why not change your forum avatar to match one of the pictures that you've sent in, so maybe we could recognise you if your picture is used? (Please remember that the forum has no minimum age requirement, so some of the pictures received *really* would not be suitable for display on the forum.)

Tues 22nd May - Album Release Party

Seany K and Lelando are throwing an "Light At The End Of The World" album launch party at the Mars Bar in Seattle (Washington) on Tuesday 22nd May.

"Come join us in celebrating the new release from the best electronic band ever, Erasure. 'Light At The End Of The World' is in stores May 22nd and we will be playing music by Erasure all night. We are giving away a few CDs as well as some rare finds from our own collection. Come dance your ass off.... Well not off, but all hot and stuff."

Erasure - Additional Tour Dates - Part I

Right, this is going to be a bit tricky...

Basically there are quite a few (actually a lot) of Erasure tour dates (Germany, North America etc) that are in the final stages of being finalised, but are not yet at a stage where they can be publicly announced.

With each region having different promoters, it is unlikely that there will be one big announcement of all the outstanding dates, as each will generally be confirmed at different times. Therefore to prevent 1,000's of emails being sent out (and getting blocked by various filters) the web site will be updated when each date is confirmed, and a newsletter sent out with a summary of the dates later.

What I can announce so far is the first set of North American Erasure tour dates:

6th July 2007: Tampa (Florida)

Carol Morsani Hall, 1010 North W.C. MacInnes Place, Tampa, Florida

www: http://www.tbpac.org/welcome/venues/morsani.html

7th July 2007: Miami (Florida)

James L Knight Center, 400 SE Second Ave, Miami, Florida

www: http://www.jlkc.com/

8th July 2007: Orlando (Florida)

Orlando Hard Rock Live, 6050 Universal Blvd, Orlando, Florida

www: http://www.hardrock.com/live2/live.asp

Tickets will be on sale to the general public on Friday 11th May via Ticketmaster:

Boxoffice numbers are also listed here:

4. Sunday Girl (Riffs & Rays Club Edit)

5. Sunday Girl (Riffs & Rays Dub Edit)

Photos & Video Clips Required For Forthcoming Tour

Just a quick reminder regarding the request for photos / video footage from the last newsletter: You MUST send in a signed consent form (either via the post or scanned and sent via e-mail) or else your submission will not be passed onto the production company for possible use. Far too many people are sending in pictures with no names or consent forms.

Plus - we need more "Galaxy Look" and "Beautiful Freaks on Earth Look" pictures! Go wild with your imaginations!

The examples are just guidelines - so feel free to make your own personal interpretations!

"Light At The End Of The World" Packaging

The ltd edition version of the new album "Light At The End Of The World" (which features twelve songs) will be in digipack packaging.

To wet your appetite for the beautiful artwork it contains, some small pictures of the packaging and the booklet can be seen within the News section.

www: http://www.erasureinfo.com/news/

Note: The ten song edition of the album will be packaged in a standard CD jewel case.

Both versions of the album can be pre-ordered from many stores, including "Best Buy", "Amazon" (who seem to have the track listings the wrong way around at the moment), HMV, Virgin Megastore and of course Mute Bank.

Speaking of which, I made a mistake with the track listing for the Japanese track listing of "Light At The End Of The World" - it will contain the alternative "kissing" video rather than the original "shopping mall" video for "I Could Fall In Love With You". Apologies for that - that's what happens when one read e-mails in the wrong order!

To (slightly) make up for it - here's a link (not published on the EIS web site yet) to one of my favourite Erasure press photos:

www: http://www.erasureinfo.com/news/gfx/press_stevedouble_05.jpg

I feel a caption competition coming on! Will do one next week.

"Light At The End Of The World" Album Reviews

"Erasure prove that synth music has a place in the top ranks of classiness, and this album deserves a good placing in the charts, because whilst it will still appeal to the long-time fans, it's so enjoyable it should gain them a whole new legion of fans."

[Digital Spy]: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/music/a46017/erasure-light-at-the-end-of-the-world.html

"Erasure have this amazing ability to tap into a vein of double edged pop that's both riotously euphoric and terribly sad...against the odds Erasure are still as relevant as the rest of the current crop of electro-pop bands." [Gay Times]

"Sunday Girl" Track listing

The track listing for the second single "Sunday Girl" is as follows:

CD Single (CDMUTE376)

- Sunday Girl (Radio Mix)

- Take Me On A Highway

CD Single (LCDMUTE376)

- Sunday Girl (Extended 12" Mix)

- Sunday Girl (Riffs & Rays Club Edit)

- Sunday Girl (Riffs & Rays Dub Edit)

7" Vinyl Picture Disc (MUTE376)

- Take Me On A Highway

Important Newsletter Next Week

In a similar vein to last time I wrote this - if you cross your fingers (and thumbs) and think happy thoughts, then hopefully there should be an important newsletter arriving in your inboxes next week, so keep an eye out for it (i.e check spam folders etc.)

Quick Message From Andy

You may or may not know that the EIS runs the official Erasure MySpace presence as well as the web site / forum / mailing list.

Whereas the EIS web site tends to receive specific queries (regarding tour dates etc), the Erasure MySpace site tends to receive personal messages intended for the band.

These messages are collated every so often and e-mailed onto the band, and the latest batch of messages regarding the new single / album / tour etc prompted Andy to e-mail this message which I thought I'd pass on:

"God I'm a bit gob-smacked with all the lovely comments, makes it all worthwhile Thank you to everybody XX" [Andy]

HMV In-Store Signings

Erasure will be playing live and signing copies of their new album "Light At The End Of The World" at two HMV stores:

- Monday 21st May 6.00pm - HMV 150 Oxford Street, London W1D 1DJ

400 wristbands will be given out from the store from 9.00am on the 21st May on a strictly "first come first served" basis, one per person only, while stocks last.

BBC Radio 2 has moved the new single up to the 'B' playlist - which is good news.

iTunes / iPods / Other MP3 Players

I've received a few emails concerning the exclusive "James Aparicio" mix of "I Could Fall In Love With You", all from people who do not own iPods.

Just to clarify, you do *not* need an iPod to listen to music purchased from the iTunes store. Music purchased from the store can be written onto a CD for playback via your CD player. This is all done within the iTunes application itself and is very straightforward. Music CDs can of course be imported into other MP3 players etc.

"I Could Fall In Love With You" - Out Now (Germany) And Next Week (UK / North America)

"Thumping return from the camp Eighties disco-pop duo." (The Sun)

"It's funky and fun, it's a little bit '80s, and it's easy to listen to. What more could you ask for?" (Digital Spy)

"There are some songs as well that just let you float away to a better place and escape the world around you - This uplifting new single by the evergreen Erasure is one for that select category." (Amazon)

Although I probably wouldn't have phrased it *quite* like the above quote from "The Sun" newspaper, I do believe that "I Could Fall In Love With You" is one of the best Erasure singles for quite a few years.

Keep an eye on your e-mail inboxes on Monday for a "I Could Fall In Love With You" e-card, which will contain the "I Could Fall In Love With You" alternative video for your viewing pleasure.

"I Could Fall In Love With You" - Single Availability

Given the declining sales of singles (for all artists) you may have problems finding stores that bother to even stock singles, let alone multiple formats. The 7" vinyl picture disc could be a problem to find in smaller record stores.

Therefore I strongly suggest that you either:

a) pre-order the single at your local record store or

b) order the single online - many large online stores will have all the formats available.

Outside of the UK, Germany and North America, the following international licensees have also ordered the physical formats of the single:

"I Could Fall In Love With You" CD Single (CDMUTE375)

Denmark, Israel and Sweden

"I Could Fall In Love With You" Maxi CD (LCDMUTE375)

Czech Republic, Denmark, Greece and Israel

"I Could Fall In Love With You" 7" Vinyl (MUTE375)

Austria, Denmark and Greece

For those of you in these countries, this increases your chances of being able to find / order the single in a local store.

To order the single in your local store you will probably need to quote the ICPN / UPC codes for the format you want - full details below.

"I Could Fall In Love With You" CD Single (CDMUTE375 / 0094639000623)

"I Could Fall In Love With You" Maxi CD (LCDMUTE375 / 0094639083923)

"I Could Fall In Love With You" 7" Vinyl (MUTE375 / 0094639000678)

"I Could Fall In Love With You" US Maxi CD (MUT009354 / 724596935422)

Mute Bank (UK / European Formats): http://www.recordstore.co.uk/mutebank/home.jsp?SearchField=CATALOGNUMBER&Search=MUTE366

Mute Bank (US Maxi CD): http://mute.insound.com/store/searchresults.py?artist=erasure (available to order nearer the release date)

The *digital* release of the single should be available in almost all territories.

Remember the release dates are as follows:

United Kingdom: 2nd April

Germany: 30th March

North America: 3rd April

The True Colors Tour

For the first time ever, music legends and today's hottest artists take the stage for a historical musical event - Cyndi Lauper, Erasure, Debbie Harry, The Dresen Dolls, The Gossip and The Misshapes with host Margaret Cho join in celebration of the inaugural True Colors concert tour in support of the Human Rights Campaign.

This 15 city nationwide tour, presented by Logo, covers North America and Canada and kicks off Gay & Lesbian Pride Month on June 8th at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Garden Arena. The concerts will feature five hours of nonstop music with other exciting special guests appearing on select dates throughout the tour including Rufus Wainright, Rosie O'Donnell and Indigo Girls with additional guests to be announced.

The Human Rights Campaign seeks to improve the lives of GLBT Americans by advocating for equal rights and benefits in the workplace, ensuring families are treated equally under the law and increasing public support among all Americans through innovative advocacy, education and outreach programs. One dollar of every ticket sold will benefit the Human Rights Campaign.

The tour will also give Americans an opportunity to learn more about and become involved with the Matthew Shepherd Foundation and Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays (PFLAG).

Tickets for select cities will go on sale beginning March 16th.

All the venue details / ticket links are available within the 'Live' section on the Erasure web site and further information is available on the True Colors site.

Cyndi Lauper / Erasure Duet

Cyndi Lauper has recorded a duet on a new Erasure song called "Early Bird". The song was recorded by Erasure during the recent recording sessions for their new album. When they decided to do the True Colors tour, it was suggested to Cyndi to do the duet.

According to my sources (well my email inbox!) Cyndi's vocals are superb and the track is a very r&b / Prince-y type of track from Vince and Andy - very different to everything else from the new album, and has been mixed by Gareth Jones.

I'll keep you updated on this intriguing new item!

Online "Virtual Street Team"

Thank you to all those that applied to be part of the online "Virtual Street Team" - no further applications are being accepted.

"I Could Fall In Love With You" - Release Change And Artwork

It wouldn't be a new Erasure release without something being changed before it hits the shops...

Basically there is a production issue with the current video for "I Could Fall In Love With You" and it won't be possible to resolve it before the manufacturing deadline for the DVD single.

Therefore in order to prevent the single release date from being pushed back, the DVD Single is being replaced with a 7" vinyl picture disc edition (MUTE366).

The track listings for the various single formats are now as follows:

CD Single (CDMUTE366)

1) I Could Fall In Love With You (Jeremy Wheatley Radio Mix)

2) I Could Fall In Love With You (Monteverde Radio Edit)

Maxi CD (LCDMUTE366)

1) I Could Fall In Love With You (Jeremy Wheatley Extended 12" Mix)

2) I Like It

3) I Could Fall In Love With You (Monteverde Vocal Extended Remix)

7" Vinyl (MUTE366)

A) I Could Fall In Love With You (Jeremy Wheatley Radio Mix)

B) I Like It

Yes you read that correctly - a 7" vinyl picture disc edition. I was smiling as I wrote that sentence :)

The artwork for all the single formats can be seen by following the link below. (When you reach the page, click on a thumbnail to view a larger image)

www: http://www.erasureinfo.com/releases/singles/icouldfallinlovewithyou.html

Share Your "Falling In Love" Moment And Be In A New Erasure Video

The band have had an idea of an alternative video for "I Could Fall In Love With You" and they would like Erasure fans to be involved.

The idea is to feature a montage of "falling in love" moments, that tender kiss with a loved one...the warm embrace with a close friend...the gaze into your partners eyes that makes your heart beat faster before your lips finally meet... that kind of thing!

In order to include as many special moments as possible, we would like you guys to send in your very own "falling in love" moment for possible inclusion in the video. This can be in the form of a video clip or still image of that special kiss or embrace.

- Still Images -

For still images you can email in practically any image format, such as JPEG, PNG, TIFF or BMP. (Email address below)

- Video Footage -

Option 1) I would *strongly* advise you to send in video clips via the post (burn the footage on a CD / DVD disc or send in cassette copies e.g. MiniDV). Videos encoded in MPEG, AVI, Quicktime, WMV - practically any format should be fine. (Postal address details below).

Option 2) Or you can use a web based file sharing service - upload the file and send me the link to be able to download it.

Option 3) If the video file is small (such as video footage taken via a mobile phone) then you can email the file via the email address below. Please note that some internet service providers do limit the size of attachments that you can email.

- Finally -

The last day that submissions will be accepted will be Monday 19th March.

You will need to download and sign a release form and send it in with your submission. The form will be available for download within the EIS News section of the website later on Friday.

Online Erasure Fan "Virtual Street Team"

As mentioned in a previous newsletter, it is clear that there is a large amount of enthusiasm from Erasure fans in wishing to help promote Erasure.

Therefore I looking for a number of volunteers to help out in "spreading the word" of new the single and album online.

If you wish to help out then:

- You will need an Erasure Forum account.

- Send a "Private Message" to the following forum account expressing your interest: [online team] http://www.erasureforum.com/privmsg.php?mode=post&u=7293

- It would be useful if you could mention which other forums / blogs / online communities / web sites that you actively take part in.

- Please mention which country you are from.

- Please note that I'm looking for about 100 people to help out.

- If 100's of people wish to help out (which would be great - but would be difficult to manage) then I'll randomly choose 100. If less than 100 people volunteer then this "Virtual Street Team" will probably be abandoned.

Andy And Vince Guest DJ's

To celebrate the launch of the MTV Networks channel "Logo" in Los Angeles, Andy and Vince will guest DJ at a Logo party in LA on the 8th March, and may even preview some new music for the audience.

As far as I know this is a private event, so I'm afraid that there are no tickets available, however it's an interesting news item!

"I Could Fall In Love With You" Track Listings

First a few words from Mr Vince Clarke:

"This is one of the few songs that existed in part before the Maine hotel room writing sessions.

Before we started this album, I was really keen for it not to be mid-tempo - I'm having a mid-tempo crisis! Our albums seem to have got slower and slower, so I started searching for classic funk or disco baselines, put some ideas together with chord changes and baselines underneath, and emailed them to Andy for him to sing over the top.

The song, like this album, is quite 'up' and up tempo because we're both in good spaces right now."

And It's Goodbye From 429 Harrow Road

Within a few weeks, the EIS will be leaving its home for many years, 429 Harrow Road London. This building has seen three EIS Managers (Janet, Jonny and myself) in its time, with an office shared (until late last year) with the delightful people from Mute Bank mail order.

As I compose this newsletter, cardboard boxes are being sealed, files are being packed away and interesting items are being discovered in dark and dingy areas (such as blue translucent 12" vinyl test pressings of "Oh L'Amour" - expect a giveaway competition soon!) I'm not sure what I'm supposed to do with Vince's inflatable kayak, but at least he took back his red dress.

So what does this mean for you guys? Well not too much really. The main issue is that the EIS Shop will remain closed until the move has been completed. It is also likely that a third party will take over the selling and shipping of EIS merchandise, as it is highly unlikely that the EIS will be in a position to store / package / send merchandise in its new premises. That is actually good news for you as it means that someone will be dedicated full time with dealing with your merchandise orders, rather than how it currently works (or not as the case may be) with me trying to fit it in with everything else - so that will be a better service for you. Oh, and I won't be sitting opposite piles of cardboard anymore, so hurrah for that as well.

Thanks to all those that have popped round to visit the EIS office at Harrow Road to say "Hello" over the years - it's always nice to put a face to a name.

I'll publish details of the new EIS postal address etc once the move has been completed.

Erasure Forum "Always" Fan Campaign

A recent change in the UK chart rules means that any individual digital download music track is now eligible for the singles chart. Recently a BBC Radio One DJ has started a campaign to get Billie Piper's hits back in the charts.

Members of the Erasure Forum in the UK have had a similar idea and are starting a campaign to get the Erasure song "Always" back into the chart by purchasing the track (approx 79p) from UK digital download stores during the week beginning the 5th February (i.e this week).

If you are interested in helping these guys out then more information can be found within the original forum discussion:

Or you could request "Always" to be played on the following radio shows **today** (Friday) to help the song gain some exposure:

Well it's been a pretty exciting week so far, with Andy and Vince taking part in the video shoot for the new single.

Behind the scenes footage of the video shoot will be published on the Erasure website in due course - just to wet your appetites, a section of the video is described as "time splits off in wild tangents parallel to their reality" - make of that what you will!
